Hall Of Fame

The hall of fame records the top performing students of all time. As a secondary school teacher a lot of time is spent chasing students for work. This provides some recognition for those students that go above and beyond what is asked of them - and often (because the focus has to be elsewhere) do not get the attention they deserve. To help rectify this if you're a Yateley students and ranked in the #1 come and find me at break of lunch and I will make you a cup of tea or coffee!

Mr Stacey

Mr Stacey is the Head of Science, Head of Physics and half the Physics teaching staff at Yateley School. He joined the school as the head of Science in 201? when the Science faculty was considered the weakest (potentially equal weakest by some) in the school. It now posts GCSE results making it the equal strongest Core faculty at GCSE with a nice upward trajectory showing continual improvement. A Level results have also been improving significantly e.g. Physics A level posted the best results the school has ever had for KS5 progress in 2018 with an ALPS1. In 2019 it went one better with a higher ALPS score and being ranked as the #3 school nationally (including private schools and colleges) for progress using the DofEs L3VA measure.

Parents/Guardians

Specific functionalty is incorporated for Parents/Guardians on the parent screen so they can evaluate how the son/daughter is progressing. On the screen they will see a list of all of the tasks that their son/daughter has been set, the status of the tasks and the % score they achieved on the task. Alongside this is the average and best performance performance for their class, and for their year.

PC and Mobile Quizzes

PC and Mobile quizzes allows users to construct a quiz on the areas of the specification they want to focus on. The only difference between PC and Mobile quizzes is the number of questions on the screen at one time. PC quizzes render all the questions on the screen at one time - which does not really work on a mobile phone. Mobile quizzes render one question at a time on the screen - which actually works quite well on both PCs and mobile phones. These were the first incarnations of quizzes on the site.

Progress Quizzes

The premise behind the progress quizzes is to identify 20 questions to check students understanding of a topic in the GCSE specification. These questions are linked to videos. If the student does not get the question correct it suggests that they need to revisit/review that part of the topic which they can do by watching the video.

Specification

This web-site is built for the AQA specification that I am familiar with. The content is relevant to other specifications but will not match it as closely. Content is continually being added and refined. The intention is that it will cover the GCSE Trilogy (double award) and the GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics single awards. If there is something you would particularly like covered contact support@myonlinesciencetutor.com.

Tasks

Tasks are set for classes by Teahers. Students can find their list of tasks on the student screen. A task that has not been started has a status of "NEW". When it has been started it is marked "WIP". Once completed it is "DONE". If the due date on a task has passed students can still work on the tasks but it will be marked as late (e.g. "WIP(L)" or "DONE(L)").

Teachers

Some functionality online via the teacher screen. I have a lot more functionality that I've not made available through the UI. If you want something ask. We'll figure something out :)

Video Quizzes

The premise behind a video quiz is that students will make progress by watching a video. I select the best videos I can find and link questions on the site to them. Students answer the questions (called prequestioning) to establish a baseline, watch a video, then repeat the questions to show progress. If a video quiz has been set as a task students have to show progress (i.e. get more questions right) for the task to be considered complete.
